Outside the city of Luang Prabang, Laos are the famous Kuang Si waterfalls. There are dozens of waterfalls that meander through the jungle, some cascade only a few feet into turquoise pools, others fall several hundred feet off limestone cliffs. The area is popular with tourists and locals. Many of the pools are swim-able, some even have rope swings tied to nearby jungle trees. After spending the afternoon seeing the falls, I saw two Buddhist monks admiring one of the pools. I realized it was an opportunity for a great shot, the orange robe of the monk in front of the blue-green pool. If I could slow the shutter speed sufficiently I could blur the running water in the background. I steadied my back on a tree, cranked the f-stop to 22, and the shutter speed to 1/6. I took several shots knowing most would come out slightly blurry. Luckily the monk didn’t move much and I was able to get a sharp shot.
